Going out every day in heels, even high heels, isn't a good idea. And if you're convinced that once you take them off, everything goes back to normal, you need to update your knowledge on what happens when you overdo this completely understandable and acceptable aesthetic choice.
Heels do not automatically transform the bone structure of the foot, but excessive use can alter the shape, posture and function of the foot, creating deformations and rigidity. The reason is simple: it has to do with pressure and the distribution of the body's weight.
heels shift the weight of the body forward, concentrating it on the front of the foot (forefoot and toes), and this causes a widening of the forefoot and can cause the fingers to protrude or become deformed, especially the hammer toe or l 'hallux valgusNot only that. The calves and tendons shorten if the heels are very high, because the foot remains in a flexed plantar position, and this can make it difficult to walk without heels and reduce the flexibility of the foot. Finally, prolonged use of heels can cause displacements or deformations of the bones of the foot, especially in the area of the big toe and toes and in the most severe cases, can contribute to the development of calluses, bursitis and chronic pain.
If you don't want to give up wearing high heels often, then it is advisable to take some precautions:
- Do some daily foot exercises: for example, picking up objects with your toes or walking barefoot for a minute on your toes. These exercises help maintain flexibility and strong muscles.
- However, do not go beyond 7-8 centimetres in height.
- Stretch your calves and hamstrings.
- When walking, keep your shoulders open, your abdomen slightly contracted, and your knees soft.
- Walking correctly helps distribute your weight better and reduces pressure on your knees, back, and feet.
- Taking care of your feet e moisturize the skin to avoid calluses and cracks.
