Bambino Gesù patients aboard the Nave Italia to alleviate illness (video)

CHILD JESUS ​​PATIENTS ON THE ITALIAN SHIP –

A unique experience for special "sailors," aboard a historic ship . This and much more is the project that is taking 14 young patients from the "Epilepsy Out of the Shadows" project at the Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital around the Mediterranean Sea from July 18th to 22nd . The initiative is hosted by a vessel par excellence: Nave Italia , the sailing brigantine that the Tender to Nave Italia Onlus Foundation (created by the Italian Navy and the Italian Yacht Club) dedicates to the recovery of people with physical or mental disabilities.

EPILEPSY OUT OF THE SHADOWS –

The project was born with the ambition of encouraging self-esteem and self-awareness in young people who often lose their peace of mind due to illness . To achieve this, aboard the splendid brigantine, patients learn to share rules and common spaces. The vessel set sail from Olbia, Sardinia, carrying children and adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 with epilepsy undergoing pharmacological treatment with adequate seizure control . This wonderful initiative was made possible thanks to the Tender To Nave Italia Foundation , established on January 10, 2007 by the Italian Navy and the Italian Yacht Club. The non-profit organization promotes the culture of the sea and navigation as tools for education, training, rehabilitation, social inclusion, and therapy. And in addition to hospital patients, non-profit organizations, charities, schools , and social services that promote inclusive actions for their patients and their families can also take advantage of "special" sailings.

ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES –

The collaboration between the Tender to Nave Italia Onlus Foundation and Bambino Gesù began in 2011 and has allowed many sick children and young people to enjoy a truly unforgettable experience. The next to sail on Nave Italia will be the children of " A gonfia vele contro il cancro " (Full Sail Against Cancer), who will set sail from the port of Livorno from August 29th to September 2nd and return to Civitavecchia. The project, now in its fourth edition, is aimed at patients with stable hematological-oncological diseases . The young sailors will be between the ages of 12 and 18 and will be cared for onboard by several nurses and a pediatric hematologist-oncologist throughout the journey.
