Un bonus of 3.500 euros for all employees, with any type of contract (even fixed-term or for a probationary period), who have a child. Usually, companies fire moms who have the terrible idea of having children. And in fact, female employment has decreased partly as a result of this absurd discrimination. However, at General Membrane in Ceggia, in the province of Venice, the opposite occurs: employees who decide to have a child are rewarded with a bonus of 3.500 euro.
The bonus reaches employees immediately and should serve as an incentive to have, or even adopt, a child. This will improve workers' family well-being and reverse the low birth rate, which also harms the business world.
General Membrane, with its 80 employees, is a classic local business, where everyone knows each other and human relationships are strong. The company produces waterproofing materials and has a catalog of constantly updated and technologically advanced products. "But product quality and innovation alone aren't enough to achieve good results. The employees' state of mind is crucial; they shouldn't feel unable to have children," says Gian Paolo Benvenuti, the company's general manager. General Membrane's operation, underwritten through a second-level company agreement, also has another positive aspect: the collaboration between the companies and the union. Of the €3.500 that goes to the employee who becomes a mother, €1.500 is paid directly by the company, while the rest comes from Enfea, the trade union that supports the project.
