When it's very hot, we tend to forgo outdoor physical activity, thus wasting an important workout. Yet walking in the heat without sweating isn't difficult.

Constant pace

Your walking pace should be slow and steady, without sudden accelerations. Are you running late? Don't try to make up for it by increasing your pace like you would any other day: your body will suffer, and if you start sweating from this extra effort, you risk never stopping.

Breaks and hydration

If you feel tired from the heat, it's a good idea to take a break, without continuing to walk and overexerting your body. This is also a good opportunity to hydrate: in the heat, it's important to drink plenty of fluids , aiming for around 2 liters a day.

Water can also be used to wet the wrists and temples.

Look for shaded paths

Even where the sun almost always beats down, there are shaded areas: try to follow these routes. And don't worry if the road and travel time are longer.

The right clothing

When walking in hot weather, you should wear light, breathable clothing made of natural fabrics (cotton, hemp, and linen), and avoid bright colors.

Wear a hat

It's never a bad idea to keep your head covered and protect it from the heat, perhaps wetting it with cool water.

Avoid the hottest hours

If possible, choose early morning or after sunset hours for walking, and avoid heat peaks between 12pm and 16pm.

If you feel discomfort and your body tells you it can't handle the effort, or you start sweating profusely, don't overdo it and stop. Aside from sweating, you risk heat stroke or even heat cramps.
