Floating on the water with the body in the shape of a star (in a position also known as floating) It's a simple yet effective way to recover physical and mental energy, release the tension we can build up even during vacation, and relax muscles that may have been under pressure from the heat and the physical exercise we've done.

Assorurale's position

The body, in a supine position, forms a star because the arms and legs spread simultaneously, without any particular effort. Assuming this position is slang for "playing dead," and in fact, star-shaped floating corresponds to a position that in yoga and in general in holistic disciplines it is called Savasana (corpse pose), and is usually used on land or in water at the end of the exercise to achieve deep relaxation.

Physical benefits

The most important physical benefits of star floating concern the muscles, the spine and even circulation.

  • The muscles relax almost completely: water can support the entire body weight, thus reducing the load on muscles and joints, eliminating micro-contractions and accumulated muscle tension.
  • The spine decompresses:  when we are immersed, supine, in water, the Archimedean thrust supports much of the body's weight. This reduces the gravitational load on the spine and joints, resulting in less pressure on the intervertebral discs than when we are standing and the back you can relax better.
  • Some chronic pains The following can be relieved by star floating: arthritis, migraines, joint pain, and fibromyalgia. If you suffer from mild back pain or stiffness, supine floating can be pleasant and, for some people, can help reduce pain in the short term.
  • After physical exertion, for example a rather intense workout, lying supine on the water reduces the production of lactic acid, making this the ideal position for athletes after training.
  • The pressure exerted by the water promotes the return of blood to the heart, which pumps more efficiently and often heart rate decreases for the same amount of effort, while lymphatic massage is aided by the lying position. Blood pressure can be reduced while floating, especially if the water temperature is comfortable.

Benefits for the mind

It is no coincidence that star floating is used in holistic disciplines, as it benefits the mind as well as the body, from various points of view.

  • Lo stress. is drastically reduced, as this position reduces cortisol and adrenaline, two typical stress hormones.
  • At the same time Star floating releases endorphins, neurotransmitters that promote well-being, and there's a good chance your mood will improve as well.
  • The supine position on the water It is considered a sort of therapy against insomnia: half an hour of relaxation by “playing dead” can be as good as a few hours of sleep.
  • The star float It is also a good position for meditation. Some contemporary teachers of Mindfulness and relaxation techniques offer meditations in water (“water meditation” or "floating meditation").
  • Increased Creativity: the mind, once freed from external stimuli that simultaneously engage the body, reorganizes ideas, increases concentration, and thus becomes more creatively fertile.

In the late 1970s, John Lennon managed to escape the pressures of the public and rediscover his best songwriting skills, thanks to a huge tank he installed in his New York apartment. He would lie on his back, floating in a star-shaped pattern, for up to an hour.

How long can you lie down at the beach?

In specialized centers in floating, The star float position is recommended for up to an hour. In the sea, however, between 1 and 20 minutes may suffice. This is the ideal time, for example, to relax after a swim, while going beyond this can lower your body temperature, causing chills and muscle stiffness.
