YOUTH DEPRESSION
La trough youth is on the rise. Several statistics prove it, and a recent study published in The Lancet It highlights that mental disorders in the 10-24 age group have increased by 32 percent in the last thirty years. And one in four adolescents has symptoms of youth depression. Loneliness is increasing (also due to the effect of the spread of technology and its improper use), relationships, with their associated benefits, decrease, and young people tend to isolate themselves in their own world. Often virtual. In a period in which anguish and sadness can always be lurking.

SYMPTOMS

- Little desire to go out and travel
- Feeling of sadness and listlessness
- Irritability and impulsiveness
- Little interest in the social life
- No desire to listen to music and watch movies
- Changes in weight and appetite
- Sleep problems and a prolonged feeling of tiredness and low energy

CAUSES
Also the juvenile depression, like that of adults, remains "an obscure disease." And the causes are not always decipherable. Although the genesis of depression is multifactorial, meaning that various factors, including biological and genetic ones, contribute to its onset, negative life experiences often play a key role in triggering its onset or favoring a relapse. In this sense, being a victim of Bullying by their peers constitutes a risk factor for the development of depressive reactions, which can range from a mild disorder to a major and more complete one. Youth depression can also be the consequence of drug abuse. alcohol and drugs, but also of traumatic events such as a very serious bereavement, an abortion, or physical violence suffered.
CONSEQUENCES
The consequences of youth depression can be devastating, especially for adolescents. First, there's a good chance that academic performance will be extremely poor, then relationships will fade or become residual, and the risk of physical problems, including illnesses, increases. cardiovascularAnother risk is dealing with youthful depression by resorting to drugs or alcohol, with knock-on effects on the body and the psyche.
THERAPY
Therapies should be chosen gradually and individually. Remedies may include psychotherapy (possibly one of those recognized as effective for depression, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (or interpersonal therapy) or pharmacotherapy: it has now become almost standard practice to combine therapy sessions with the use of some medication, in dosages established by the doctor. But so-called self-help interventions cannot be overlooked. These patient-centered treatments have proven effective even on their own in resolving mild depression. There are many types of self-help, like writing, tested by the athlete Giorgio Minisini, technically called expressive writing, which has demonstrated its effectiveness, both in focusing on one's problems and possible solutions, and in organizing thoughts and emotions in preparation for the session with the psychotherapist.
PREVENTION
Even youthful depression can be prevented with attitudes that are useful within the therapy itself.
- Carry out constant and continuous physical activity
- In particular they do very well swimming , walk
- In general, any relationship with nature helps to have a psycho-physical well-being
- Multiply hobbies and curiosities
- Travelling perhaps in company
