Poste Italiane is a company (effectively controlled by the state) specialized in torturing citizens and consumers. According to their advertisements, they're very good at doing everything and more. And they consistently present stellar financial statements with increasing revenues. Then, when you face it, the truth comes out, and the waste of time and money this company continues to inflict on so many Italians.
SPID: HOW TO AVOID TORTURE AT THE POST OFFICE
The latest example is SPID (Public Digital Identity System), a type of digital identity consisting of a username and password, created to make certain public administration and participating private services accessible online. SPID, we could use a metaphor, is a key, with multiple turns for security, which helps avoid queues and inconvenience. An opportunity, so to speak, not an instrument of torture.
HOW TO MAKE AN SPID
For example, SPID allows you to check your social security status in real time (so we can assume it's also used by older people), or to register for a competition. But how do you get an SPID? There are several authorized entities, ranging from Aruba to InfoCert to Poste Italiane. And here's where the trouble begins. If you choose Poste Italiane, which once again demonstrates how little it cares about citizens' problems, such as mail in smaller towns or registered letters dropped in mailboxes without a second's notice, you've decided to participate in a two-step ordeal. The first is online, and involves a series of questions to answer and forms to fill out. The second, after you've received an appointment at a Poste Italiane office, is in person. Unfortunately, the appointment, which should be made in a matter of seconds, often can't be made online; you have to use a WhatsApp number, and God forbid. It goes without saying that at the last bend, you're likely to encounter counter staff who seem almost annoyed by your arrival. Who knows, maybe we're starting to miss the old post office, when we'd wait in line, but at least only once and were well-served. In the meantime, we can protect ourselves in another way: by applying for SPID with another authorized company. Some, found online, say you can do it all from home and in just a few minutes.
