Among the ancient popular beliefs that need to be discarded is the one that "oranges are gold in the morning, silver in the afternoon, and lead in the evening." This isn't true. Scientific research has repeatedly demonstrated that there are no problems in eating oranges in the evening, and this is a response to all the misconceptions that accompany this belief, which only wastes the quality of a very important fruit. Which, even in the evening, is rich in healthy nutrients and should be considered light.
- Digestive healthOranges contain natural sugars, fiber, and water. Digestion is generally easy, even in the evening. There are no scientific studies proving that eating them in the evening is harmful; if anything, there is research that suggests the opposite.
- Sugars and energySome people think that fruit in the evening can "keep you awake" because of the sugar. In reality, the amount of sugar in one or two oranges is minimal and shouldn't interfere with sleep.
- Heartburn. If you suffer from acid reflux, an orange before bed might bother you due to the acidity. But for those without digestive problems, there's no risk.
However, considering that citrus juice contains natural acids (citric acid and ascorbic acid), there are particular conditions in which its use is not recommended, and in particular if you suffer from:
- gastroesophageal reflux
- gastritis
- heartburn.
