The last was Diamante, in the province of Cosenza. The first was Igliano, in Piedmont. And now, more than 150 Italian municipalities have a councilor for kindness within their administration. Almost always a woman. The driving force behind this wonderful initiative, which aims to reconnect citizens with institutions and public affairs, is the Cor et Amor association, capable of creating a truly national network through the goal of spreading kindness . But what does the Councilor for Kindness actually do? Her responsibilities are wide-ranging: they range from opening a small municipal children's library in Bagni a Ripoli, in the province of Florence, to the construction of a bench by elementary school students in Quincinetto, in the province of Turin. The Councilor for Kindness engages citizens in initiatives to care for the most vulnerable segments of the population, as happened in Montebello Vicentino, where Councilor Mirka Pellizzaro successfully brought together a nursery school and a retirement home. This created benefits for both residents and residents of both facilities. But the Councilor for Kindness can also be invaluable in cultivating respect for shared spaces and civic duty, without which a city can never be truly sustainable.
