There is new hope for improving the care of food allergy and protect children who, due to this type of problem, can have different reactions, some very dangerous. Urticaria, skin diseases, choking sensations, anaphylactic shock. A group of researchers from the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome studied 65 children and adolescents, up to 18 years old, suffering from asthma and one or more forms of food allergies for a whole year.
These patients were tested for a monoclonal antibody and as many as six out of ten were able to tolerate increased quantities of the food that formed the basis of their diet. food allergyAnaphylactic shock episodes also dropped among the 65 patients undergoing therapy: there were 98 in the year prior to the trial, but only 8 after the administration of the monoclonal antibody.
At the moment this drug is only permitted in Europe for the treatment of asthma, but the trial at the Roman hospital, published in the journal Allergy, opens new horizons, considering that in America the monoclonal antibody tested at Bambino Gesù has already been approved for therapies related to food allergies.
