Chartreux: the calmest and most balanced cat in existence

Il gatto certosino (In English Chartreux cat) is a very ancient breed, native to France, known for its gray-blue coat, but above all for its calm, quiet, and balanced nature. Three characteristics for which it is unrivaled in the world. Even the Chartreux's meow reflects this calmness and is very soft for an animal with such a massive build as its own: according to legend, it learned to modulate it by frequenting monasteries, where everyone speaks in low voices.

Physical characteristics

The main characteristics of the Carthusian are these:

• Appearance: short, very dense fur, uniformly gray-blue in color. It has an almost woolly texture, which protects it well from the cold.
• Head: large, massive, with a broad, straight nose and very developed cheeks.
• Ears: medium sized, broad at the base, pointing slightly forward.
• Eye Countour: large, round, usually copper or deep orange in color.
• Size: medium-large, muscular and robust, but with a soft appearance.
• Weight: 3-5 kilograms for the female; 4-8 kilograms for the male.

It's best to focus on a good-quality food, rich in animal protein, and with well-balanced portions based on age and activity. Avoiding excessive snacks and encouraging a regular diet helps prevent excess weight and metabolic problems.

The Chartreux is a particularly independent cat, loves to go outdoors, but also lives very well indoors and is not afraid of solitude. Being a cat quiet but intelligent, needs stimulation: toys, scratching posts, and moments of daily interaction are essential to avoid boredom and a sedentary lifestyle. Even though he is independent, he suffers from prolonged solitude.
