Origins

Originally from Russia, the cat Russian Blue, also known as Archangel Blue, was born before the 19th century in Arkhangelsk. Even the Tsar, in 1850, owned one named Vadka, and the breed soon became very popular throughout Europe, especially in the palaces of English nobles. The standard was first recognized in 1912.

Appearance

  • Its ears are large and pointed.
  • The eyes are large, slightly slanted and a bright emerald green.
  • The head is long and the body as a whole is very elegant, slender, strong and muscular.
  • Although its fur is short, it is thick and soft, with a characteristic "blue-gray" color with silver highlights. It is the only feline breed with a double coat.
  • The weight of males varies between 3,5 and 5 kg while females range from 2,5 to 3,5 kg.

Docile, sweet, affectionate, joyful, patient, he is a cat He loves playing with family (but less so with strangers) and being cuddled often. In his calm and peaceful state, he loves to play. Despite his lively nature, he's also a bit lazy, especially during the winter, when he loves to lounge on the couch.
