Campobasso has been without trains since 2020

Perhaps the situation will be resolved at the end of 2028. Yet the works were only supposed to last three years.

campobasso
It all started in 2020, when in Molise the railway connection was suspended because they were Electrification and modernization work is underway on the railway line between Campobasso and Bojano-Isernia. The suspension of the line was supposed to last just three years, but years have passed, and there's still no end in sight. A new schedule has been announced, according to which the line will be restored no earlier than the end of 2028. This represents almost twenty years of delays. At the start of work, the electrification and modernization project for the Roccaravindola–Isernia–Campobasso was esteemed around 80 million euros.
In addition to the inconvenience to citizens, especially residents and commuters, there is the money wasted due to the delays accumulated over the years. The line's renovation, according to the initial budget, was supposed to cost 80 million euros; now, 400 million euros will likely not be enough! In practice, a fivefold increase.
The delay is due to a number of reasons, including flawed and reworked designs, several collapses during construction (for example, a tunnel between Vinchiaturo and Baranello), and completely incorrect forecasts by the Railways.  Every year,, the end of the works comes postponed: from 2023 to 2024, then to 2025 and finally to 2028 as a new completion forecast. Meanwhile, Campobasso has achieved a bad record: it is the only regional capital without trains.
