Pet medicine prices are tainted by a wild speculation involving manufacturers and veterinarians . They cost three to ten times more than human versions of drugs with the same active ingredients. Some examples? Diuren, a heart medication for animals , is identical to Lasix for humans, except the former costs €12,70 and the latter just €1,72. Ten times more. Fortekor, a blood pressure medication for dogs and cats, contains the same active ingredient, benazepril hydrochloride, as Benazepril for humans: €25,50 for the former; €3,88 for the latter. Eight times more.
