How to protect roses from aphids

Roses have a sworn enemy that can destroy the flowers and the plant itself: aphids , which in turn can be eaten by ladybugs. There are various chemical products available to protect roses from aphids, some very powerful, but they are not without side effects. We suggest first trying some natural remedies that can be effective and have no side effects for either the plants or the environment.

L'aglio

Aphids, also known as " plant lice ," are very sensitive to the smell of garlic, which they detest. The advice is to prepare a garlic macerate and spray it on the plant. You can also add chili pepper, or use a macerate of tobacco, nettle, or cloves.

Garlic and marigold plants

Precisely because of garlic's characteristics, a good idea to protect rose plants from aphids is to plant garlic and marigolds nearby. They will act as shields.

Neem oil

Neem oil is also a very effective natural remedy against rose aphids. It contains an active ingredient that works very well and can eliminate any type of pest.

Water and vinegar

This is a solution made by mixing equal parts water and vinegar . When applied to plants, it repels not only aphids but also scale insects.

Marseille soap

If aphid infestation is already underway, any macerate may not be enough. At this point, it's best to use soft Marseille potassium soap , which also removes honeydew and sooty mold. It's recommended to do this gently, without tearing, and to spray a small amount of soap mixed with water, leaf by leaf, stem by stem. Finally, keep in mind that in the case of light infestations, it's not necessary to treat all plants, but only the areas where aphids are present.
