RUNNING AND ENDORPHINS
Have you ever wondered why you experience the sense of well-being and genuine pleasure after a run, a swim, or a fairly thorough workout? Science is increasingly capable of providing up-to-date answers. Thanks to field research, a first, fundamental reason for the pleasure triggered by running has been established . It's due to endorphins, the so-called pleasure hormones . According to the journal Cerebral Cortex , these neurotransmitters are produced in large quantities during exercise and provide a sense of excitement and well-being, much like morphine or opiates.

SENSE OF WELL-BEING AFTER PHYSICAL EXERCISE
Now, thanks to research from the University of Montreal, we have another explanation for the pleasure provided by running. These are rewarding effects modulated by leptin, a key hormone for metabolism . Leptin is known as the satiety hormone because it regulates appetite. Well, the hormonal signals that modulate eating and exercise are linked. After all, the evolutionary role of running was probably to maximize the search for food. So: run, walk, and you'll experience greater feelings of pleasure.
