American Curl, the cat with its ears back

The American curl is known to all cat lovers as “the cat with the ears back”. A truly original detail of its appearance: the ears are erect, large and wide at the base, with rounded and flexible tips. But apart from this physical aspect, theAmerican curl is a cat very sociable, affectionate, gentle and dynamic. It is about one of the few cats that can also go to leash, like dogs.
 

Origins

 

The American Curl originated in the United States , specifically in California . The breed was born in the 80s from a stray cat with characteristic curled ears, called Shulamith . Her peculiarity was passed on to her kittens and, through subsequent selection, the American Curl breed was developed.

Physical aspect

In addition to its characteristic backward-pointing ears, the American Curl has an elegant and harmonious appearance.

  • Body: it is medium sized, slender and muscular, but not sturdy or heavy.
  • Head: It is slightly elongated and rounded, with a delicate muzzle.
  • Eyes: They are large, expressive and oval in shape.
  • Legs: They are proportionate to the body, with rounded feet.
  • Tail: it is long and quite thick.
  • HAIR: may be short or semi-long and can have many different colors and designs.
The average size, in the case of the male, is around 5-7 kilos, in the case of the female between 4 and 5 kilos.

Character 

The American Curl has an ideal character for living in a family.

  • Affectionate: He loves being close to people and receiving attention.
  • Sociable: He usually gets along well with children, other cats and, if accustomed, even with dogs.
  • Playful: He is active and loves to play, even as an adult.
  • Curious: He enjoys exploring his surroundings and is interested in what people are doing.
  • Intelligent: can easily learn games and simple activities.
  • Not too intrusive: seeks company, but is generally not a cat excessively sticky

Adoption

 
Since it is a rather rare breed, for look for a American curl To adopt, you need to contact associations or shelters. It is less common to find this pure breed in shelters, but it is possible to find adults or cats from repossessions.
