Zero-kilometer flowers: the Fleur d'ici platform in France

Less pollution and less waste. Hortense Harang's project, as told by a 12-year-old student. Half of Italians have flowers in their homes.

28Even the flowers they can be sold at zero kilometerHelping reduce pollution (starting with emissions from long-distance transportation) and promoting local production. A highly successful format comes from France and was created by Hortense Harang, a former war reporter.

ZERO-KILOMETER FLOWERS

The mechanism uses an online platform, Flowers from here, which offers bouquets and flowers grown in France, without intermediaries and with a direct relationship between the producer and the consumer. Furthermore, to avoid waste Fleur d'ici offers only seasonal flowers: the Pink, for example, from May to September, not before and not after.

The bouquet revolution was told by a very young student, Livia Berestycki, 12 years old, who participated in the "Young reporters for the environment" competition, presenting the truly innovative story of Harang.

Even in Italy, a project of this kind could prove very useful for a sector that pays the price of heavy imports from Kenya, Ecuador, and the Netherlands. And yet in our country there are 30 thousand companies who work in the area of nursery (about half of Italians grow or have flowers at home), which generates a turnover of €2,4 billion annually. Zero-mile production, with the associated reduction in emissions and waste, would undoubtedly benefit the entire sector.
