Venice: Water buses in the canals are going green and running on used cooking oil.

For seven months, the lagoon waters will be traversed by eco-sustainable steamboats powered by fuel derived from used cooking oils.

Venice is a candidate to become a pioneer of an important experiment in view of sustainable mobilityThe city's vaporetti, following an agreement between the Municipality of Venice, Eni and the municipal company AVM which manages public transport, for the next seven months will circulate thanks to a fuel made with the exhausted vegetable oilsfrom domestic and catering use. From April to October, a biofuel composed of 15 percent of cooking oils which will be collected by the multi-service company Veritas and transformed into biodiesel thanks to the Porto Marghera refinery. In the meantime, the emissions in the atmosphere, with the aim of making permanent bases The Eni-Avm agreement stipulates that more than 5 million kilos of green diesel will be supplied over the course of the project, with the Municipality of Venice investing €600 to cover the cost difference. This is all part of a commitment to eco-sustainable mobility.
