Utrecht
The town in the Netherlands is universally recognized as a paradise for cyclistsThere are 250 kilometers of bike paths, all flat and safe, and a single 75-kilometer road, also for bikes, that reaches all the way to Amsterdam. Utrecht is home to the world's largest bike parking lot: 21.370 square meters on three levels, holding up to 12.500 bicycles. Finally, a fun fact: in the central library of this Dutch city, you can read while riding your bike, and while you pedal, you can charge your computer or smartphone.
Münster
To give an idea of the widespread use of cycling in Münster, just remember one statistic: residents of the German city (315 inhabitants) and tourists who visit it travel 1,2 million kilometers by bike, and each person averages twenty minutes of cycling per day. This makes the city's air very clean. Among the cycle paths, the most interesting is the 27-kilometer cycle path that runs alongside the town's canal.
Antwerp
Cycling is also very popular in Antwerp, which ranked third in the 2022 Global Bicycle Cities Index. The city has an excellent bike-sharing system, signage and traffic lights for bikes, as well as innovative services like the Bikebus, which allows you to take your bike on the bus. Frequent cycling tours are organized throughout the city to visit the most important sights.
Copenhagen
Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is the most bike-friendly city in the world. A large portion of the population uses bicycles as their primary means of transportation, both to work and to school, and there are countless safe and efficient bike lanes throughout the city. Cycling is popular because it's convenient and affordable, not to mention that those who use it can benefit from a whole host of advantages and tax discounts.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam also loves cycling: a full 60% of the population uses one, and the city is teeming with bike paths, with approximately 800 kilometers of cycle routes, numerous cyclist-friendly shops, and countless parking lots. Thanks to widespread bicycle use, the city has seen a significant reduction in road accidents, as well as its obesity rate, which is one of the lowest in Europe.
Malmö
The Swedish city Malmö boasts a whopping 489 kilometers of cycle paths, complete with pumps and various tools along the routes. Cyclists enjoy particularly safe traffic here, thanks to sensors installed at 28 intersections, which alert cars to the approach of potential cyclists.
Hangzhou
The Chinese city of Hangzhou, located about 180 km from Shanghai, boasts one of the best transport systems bike sharing in the world. Residents have access to over 51.500 bicycles, and there are 2.050 stations where they can pick up or leave their bikes. A city that has invested heavily in environmental sustainability and is the only non-European city ranked among the top 10 bike-friendly cities in the world.
Bern
Another cycling paradise is Bern. The city is teeming with cycle paths that allow you to explore it freely, and there's even a cycling guide with the most interesting itineraries, including one specifically designed for e-bikes.
Brema
Also in Germany, Bremen offers plenty of bike paths that allow you to easily traverse the city. The Neustadt district is entirely bike-friendly: here, bicycles have the right of way and a 30 km/h speed limit applies.
Hanover
The German city of Hannover, located in Lower Saxony, also features in the ranking. Bicycles are used by the vast majority of residents, even children as young as 5 and many seniors. Numerous themed events are also organized, and cycling infrastructure is state-of-the-art. By 2025, the city intends to make cycling the primary means of transportation.
