It all began in Naples, in 2015. But now the network has expanded to many Italian cities. Where everyone can make a gesture of solidarity.

The starting point of the chain of solidarity is always the same: a small, yet powerful, gesture with which we remember others. This is the case with suspended coffee, which was then followed by many other products purchased and left for the benefit of those who come after us: a lunch, a pizza, a ice-cream, The entrance to a beach resort. And now, like wildfire, across Italy, the suspended toy has also spread.

The initiative was born in Naples in 2015, and became the format with which the spending suspended, another extraordinary chain of solidarity. How does the hanging toy work? There are a number of shops selling toys, books, and children's products, where anyone can donate. The gifts are then collected by the municipal administration and distributed in collaboration with a network of volunteer organizations that assist families in need. Toys and books can also be donated online, especially during the Christmas holidays and Epiphany, without leaving home. Simply access the platform. a basket for you, go to the toys section, and purchase the gift of your choice. Pay, buy, and give: and with a small gesture, a child will be happy.

TOY SUSPENDED IN FLORENCE

Another city where the suspended toy format has had great success is Florence, where the driving force behind the initiative is two women, Silvana and Laura Dreoni, owners of a shop where toys have been sold for almost a century. In this case too, the management of the suspended toy is in the hands of the municipal administration which has opened a platform (www.comune.fi.it/giocattolosospeso) where merchants can sign up and participate in the project, and donors can find the stores where they can make their gift. Donors have two options: buy the toy, which the merchants then wrap and deliver to the municipality, or leave money, which the municipality will also allocate, for the purchase of toys to be donated to institutions for the poor or to family homes.

TOY SUSPENDED IN MILAN

The toys, books (including the best-selling biography of footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, signed by him), and jerseys of football and basketball players were collected by the Lombardy region. Volunteers from the Red Cross and LILT, the Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer, handled the distribution.

The municipal administration of Gorizia has adopted the Neapolitan format, adding a few extra details to make it even easier for donors. Vouchers worth five euros each are available, which consumers can purchase and use for the suspended toy. And the list of participating stores includes not only those that sell toys, but also libraries, delicatessens, and even some barberIn 2020, over 700 children in the city of Gorizia received the suspended toy.

A Matera A dedicated help desk has been opened at the town hall, where anyone can drop off toys, both new and used, for children of needy families. The only condition is that they be in working order. The help desk is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
