Children love playing with nail polish; they enjoy and get excited by emulating their mothers and grandmothers. The baby products industry has seized this opportunity, flooding the market with products specifically designed for toddlers.
It's a pity, however, that, as demonstrated by a test carried out by Life preserver, Of the eight best-selling products, children's nail polish often contains toxic substances. First and foremost, phenoxyethanol, an alcoholic product and antimicrobial preservative, can cause irritation and allergies, and some studies consider it particularly toxic, to the point of interfering with the reproductive organs. This substance can also be the cause of alterations in metabolism, up to obesity and diabetes, and damage to the immune and nervous systems.
Then, titanium dioxide was found in half of the 8 products analyzed, which according to some studies is potentially carcinogenic. Finally, dimethicone, a silicone that creates an artificial film, composed of molecules different from the normal lipid layer of the skin, making it water-repellent. but at the same time it does not allow the skin to breathe, with the inevitable consequences.
Based on the tests conducted, grades were assigned, from which it emerged that only three children's nail polishes achieved a passing grade.
