Shanghai's mega-resort for year-round skiing

Presented with a plan to combat the climate crisis, it actually exacerbates it. It increases emissions of polluting gases that alter the natural climate.

Shanghai maxi resort

The Chinese always play on two levels. They talk about sustainability, vowing to fight the climate crisis, but their priority is always business, even when it contributes to worsening the environmental situation. On the outskirts of Shanghai, China's de facto economic capital, a veritable satellite ski city has been created, where this sport can be practiced year-round. Its dimensions are gigantic, and in fact the area is classified as the largest ski resort in the world: 350 square meters of surface area and 90 square meters of slopes. ski.

Inside, everything needed to create a sort of Disneyland for skiing is provided: five-star hotels, shops, a mock themed village, and equally mock mountain huts, parks, and bodies of water. To ensure year-round snow, 72 refrigeration machines and 33 artificial snow machines are used in Pudong, the area of Shanghai where the mega-ski resort is located.

And here we come to the false sustainability. Chinese authorities present the entire operation as "a way to combat the climate crisis," but the exact opposite is true. These projects significantly worsen the planet's conditions, increasing polluting gas emissions and altering the natural climate of the area. Once again, the Chinese have proven themselves masters of the art. greenwashing.
