On Lake Como there is one of the most interesting vocational schools in Italy: it is called Oliver Twist-Cometa and is designed and organized primarily for young people who are at least 14 years old.
The entire curriculum, however, is very different from traditional vocational schools, and includes three courses: Carpentry and Design, Textile Design, and Bar and Restaurant Management. At the end of the three years, students receive a professional qualification, while they earn a technical diploma after the fourth year.
In addition to these three courses, there is a high school of artisanal entrepreneurship and a high school of work: these are programs that help students become freelancers in their respective fields.
But the Oliver Twist-Cometa school has some very specific features, and in particular:
- “Learning by doing”
- Laboratories, workshops and real work
- a strong connection with companies
- Personalized paths for each student
During their training, the students are often asked to gain professional experience with local entrepreneurs, while the beautiful farmhouse, surrounded by greenery, which houses the school, was built with projects designed by the students. Including the cafe tables made from recycled wine barrels.
