The surprise comes from the results of a survey, conducted in January 2026, during the days of returning to school after the long Christmas holidays: as many as 8 out of 10 students schools Middle and high school students reported feeling too cold when they returned to classA whim? To spite some overly strict professor?
Yet, taking a closer look at the situation of Italian school buildings, we discover that the risk of cold temperatures for students is much more real than imagined or contrived.
According to data from the Ministry of Education updated to September 2025, 1,5 percent of Italian schools do not have a warm-up Registered. But to this figure must be added another 8,7 percent of schools for which there is no available data on how students are protected from the cold. In total, we are talking about approximately 10 percent of the 40.000 school buildings without heating. Needless to say, these percentages rise dramatically in the southern regions, and in Campania and Calabria, approximately 30 percent of schools are unheated.
