Valentina De Matteis, 48, has always been passionate about cats and vegan cuisine. With an entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to combine these two interests into a single project and created a unique place in Rome. It's called Romeow, and it's described as a “cat bistro”While you eat or drink, cats live and move around the place, providing pleasant company to the customers.

The concept draws inspiration from Japanese cat cafes, but with a strong focus on gourmet plant-based cuisine. The menu changes frequently, but the basic dishes are:
Starters
- Vegetable tartare (based on beetroot or legumes, with delicate sauces)
- Seasonal cream soup (pumpkin, peas, carrots)
- Small gourmet samples with creams, hummus and vegetables.
Pastas
- Fresh pasta with cashew cream, truffle or mushrooms
- Creamy vegetable risotto (very creamy, dairy-free)
- Gnocchi with elaborate sauces.
Second courses
- Gourmet vegetable burger with refined side dishes
- Seitan or tofu processed in a “gastronomic” way (not banal)
- Dishes with seasonal vegetables plated in fine dining style.
Dolci
- Vegan cheesecake
- Very rich chocolate cakes
- Elegant single-portion desserts (high-end patisserie style).
Many sweets also come from the related project Julietta Pastry and Lab And the average price for a dinner is 35-40 euros. It's certainly not cheap, but in addition to the good vegan cuisine and welcoming atmosphere, you can also enjoy the company of cats, a welcome addition for cat lovers. ![]()
