Altroconsumo evaluated approximately 15 brands of Carnaroli and Basmati rice based on bean quality, varietal purity, label, price and cooking yieldThe results were very disappointing, and involved very popular brands, both in terms of quality and the presence of mycotoxins and pesticide residues.
For the Carnaroli rice
These brands have obtained very low ratings (scores at the bottom of the ranking), with some even indicated as non-compliant or of very low quality:
- Curtiriso Carnaroli – terrible rating / one of the worst results
- Selex Carnaroli – low position in the ranking
- Scotti Carnaroli Rice – insufficient evaluation
- Principe Carnaroli Rice – indicated as having failed the test
For the Basmati rice
None of the products analyzed achieved acceptable quality, and even here some brands stood out for very low results:
- Curtiriso Basmati rice – among the worst (amount of aflatoxin B1 above the limits)
- Selex Basmati rice – low score
- Scotti Fragrant Basmati Rice – low rating
- Fragrant Basmati Rice from Sustainable Agriculture – insufficient result
