LAZIO FOOD BANK –
Founded in 1997 and recognized as a non-profit organization in 2000, the association Food Bank of Lazio It collects and redistributes surplus agricultural and unmarketable food products from the EU, which it then donates to charitable organizations.
FOOD RECOVERY AND DISTRIBUTION –
The project is based on the criteria of subsidiarity and proximity between the recovery site and recipients. Food collection and distribution procedures take into account the life cycle of the products. foods and the vulnerability of recipients. The recovery of cooked and fresh food is a fundamental resource for recipient organizations, which can then use the saved financial resources to improve the service provided. Cooked foods subjected to blast chilling are recovered from company canteens, while bread, fruit, and other baked goods left over from lunch are collected from schools, restaurants, and hotels. And the recovery of surplus food also involves large-scale retail trade, thanks to which they obtain fresh and still edible products that are close to their expiration date.
The project is competing for the 2015 edition of the Non Sprecare Award. To learn more about the competition and participate, go to here!
