Defrauded savers: what's Prosecutor Rossi waiting for before resigning?

Alberto Rossi is both the head of the investigation into the collapse of Banca Etruria and the government's legal advisor. Can he comfortably perform both jobs? It might be best to give one up...

Etruria Bank fraud liability, incompatibility of the role of prosecutor Alberto Rossi

RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE BANCA ETRURIA FRAUD –

The savers caught up in the collapse of Banca Etruria, and other banks rescued by the government, were defrauded: that much is certain. We are in Italy, and therefore passing the buck is one of the favorite sports: no one dares to take responsibilityThe government, the Bank of Italy, Consob. All good and well, because in the end, the bill is paid by others, the poor wretches who squandered their savings.

With equal hypocrisy the government majority seems to be playing on two tablesOn the one hand, the Democratic Party itself is asking for a parliamentary commission of inquiry (that is never denied to anyone), on the other No representative of either the government or the majority raises a serious issue. Namely, the clear incompatibility of Alberto Rossi's dual role., as acting prosecutor of Arezzo, and therefore head of the magistrates conducting the investigation into the collapse of Banca Etruria, and as legal advisor to the government, which in any case will be implicated in the investigation for its decision to save the institution and not the savers' money.

SAVERS FRAUDED BY BANCA ETRURIA –

Rossi's defense, well supported by the vice-president of the CSM, Giovanni Legnini (former undersecretary of the Renzi government) Frankly, it's embarrassing. He claims his position at Palazzo Chigi isn't political, but technical, and it's unpaid. What does this mean? Nothing. The line between technique and politics, in these cases, is as blurry as one can imagine, a complete optical illusion, and in any case, Rossi works directly with those who might be implicated in the investigation he's conducting. Isn't this enough for him to elegantly step back and leave his desk at Palazzo Chigi? Is he familiar with the word "conflict of interest"? Legnini says: the assignment dates back well before the investigation began. So what? It might have been fine yesterday, and we have serious doubts, but it's certainly not fine today. It's unclear why Rossi himself and the CSM don't acknowledge this and send a signal of transparency and seriousness. And don't let us suspect that this murky Banca Etruria affair is being resolved entirely within the family.
