RESPECT FOR ANIMALS

“The greatness and moral progress of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

With this profound statement Ghandi reflected on the relationship between man and animals: it is certainly the thread that held together the numerous initiatives of Animal Day, the fifth edition of the day dedicated to the rights of all animals. animals, both our four-legged friends, those who live with us and share our homes, and the little animals used in research and experimentation of drugs and cosmetics.

One of these, specifically aimed at reflection against animal testing, Napoli, gave life to the artist's beautiful video Mariangela Levita, Entitled Free Animal Free: in the 5 minutes and 30 of the video, accompanied by a piece of techno music, the common thread is the dichotomy, the contrast between virtuous behaviors and absolutely incorrect and reprehensible behaviors towards the animal world.

The focal element of the video work is the password: it is through the word, the particle affirmative Yes and negative NO, the Levite ci It recalls things that seem obvious but which, unfortunately, increasingly are not. In time with the music, the artist's work asserts itself forcefully. the necessity of denunciation of denied animal rights and not yet fully recognized, and a clear NO toabandonment and exploitation.

There are still too many of them, even according to theanimal rights organization, cases of systematic violation of the integrity of animals' bodies, of their right to a dignified life and not to be abandoned on a whim.
With a particular focus on the long-standing issues relating to animal testing for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries: an inhumane practice, which leads laboratory animals, mice, rabbits, to a slow and painful death, when it does not force them to a life filled with real illnesses or torture.

Anyone who is sensitive and attentive to these issues is the ideal recipient of the video artist's work, who however also wants to reach out to those who believe that the rights of animals are a non-problem, or there are many other issues to address: to conclude with another quote, this time from the philosopher Immanuel Kant, “you can know a man's heart by the way he treats animals.”
