Associations for the recovery of plastic bottle caps: from Piedmont to Lazio

THE VALMELAINA CAPPING PROJECT –

We are a in Rome, Where The Agorà neighborhood association has created a group of volunteers committed to collecting plastic bottle caps in the cityThere are over 100 collection points throughout the capital, including schools, offices, shopping centers, and apartment buildings. The operation has been dubbed Let's plug Valmelaina and translates into the recovery of over 1.000 kilos of corks every two to three months.

PLASTIC CAP RECYCLING ROME –

The material, highly polluting, it is then sold (1 ton of plastic bottle caps is worth 150 euros) and with the proceeds the association promotes initiatives to improve the public spaces of the neighborhood, starting from the green areasNot only that. The committee, through the network created to collect bottle caps, has also managed to mobilize volunteers to assist people with disabilities. "We have no public funding of any kind, and our strength is knowing that those who collaborate with us share our efforts and our project," explains Massimo Novelli, president of Agorà.

So, in Rome where every year 1 billion cigarette butts are thrown on the ground, on the sidewalks and in the gardens cigarettes and tons of diaper waste, there are also those who, with their own efforts, are committed to cleaning up the city and generating resources useful for a neighborhood. And from a plastic bottle cap, genuine solidarity is born.
