Every mother knows how difficult it is to convince their little ones to eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. Fish is also one of those foods that little ones often refuse to hear about unless it comes in the form of sticks or kibble purchased at the supermarket. And so it happens that, more often than not, mothers end up giving in to these products just to get their children to eat this food that's so important to their health.

Fish contains protein, omega-3 fatty acids, essential minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, calcium, iron, and iodine, and a good amount of B vitamins, which are important for the growth of young. This is why it's a must-have food in their diet.

Why not try making some tasty fish-shaped fish balls at home using selected, healthy ingredients? A simple, creative, and original way to win over even the fussiest kids.

Here is the recipe we found on Children's Nutrition:

Ingredients (for 4 servings)

  • 300g of white fish fillets (hake or sole)
  • 200g of already boiled potatoes
  • An egg
  • A tablespoon of chopped parsley
  • Four tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • Two tablespoons of flour
  • A head of Gentile lettuce
  • A spoonful of capers
  • Salt (to taste)

Preparation

  • Place the fish fillets in a bowl and blend them until smooth.
  • In a bowl, peel and mash the boiled potato with a fork, then add the fish mixture, the whole egg, and the chopped parsley.
  • Season with a pinch of salt and then mix, making sure that all the ingredients are well combined.
  • After flouring your hands and forming oval meatballs with the mixture, lightly press one side of the meatballs to give them the shape of a fish tail and use the capers to create the eyes.
  • After greasing a non-stick baking pan with a little oil, arrange the fish-shaped meatballs on it and then bake them in the oven for about 15-20 minutes at a temperature of 180 degrees.
  • Wash the salad and then arrange the meatballs on top as soon as they are cooked.
