On the night between Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 June 2025, the fate of the Re.So (Solidarity Recovery) network, which for years has cared for and managed thanks to the work of its volunteers, the collection of otherwise wasted food, starting from surplus food, to donate it to families in need, seemed doomed. Around 3 a.m., a fire broke out in the association's warehouses in Avane, a municipality in the province of Empoli, starting from some external bins, destroying over 15 tons of food ready for distribution.
The fire was clearly arson, as the investigations established already in the initial phase, although the perpetrators (instigators and perpetrators) were never identified: for some, Re.So's generous work is inconvenient, and even harmful. Hence, a gesture far stronger than a simple warning: a fire that comes after a series of acts of vandalism, certainly not random, against the doors, windows, and premises of the Tuscan association.

But the perpetrators of the crime couldn't have imagined such a strong collective response in support of Re.Sol, which in effect represents a gigantic local network of 35 volunteer associations combined. Help to rebuild the warehouse came from several municipal administrations in the province of Empoli, from a series of donations from companies and individuals, and from specific fundraisers. And so the association has managed to continue its activities, always up-to-date through its Facebook page ., and here find the history and projects of this extraordinary network of associations.
The project is a candidate for the 2025 Non Sprecare Award, in the "Associations" section. To submit your projects, follow the instructions provided. here.
