Riccardo, the boy who chose to become an obstetrician and has already delivered 100 babies

He's 25 years old and the only man in his hospital to hold this role. To do so, he had to overcome considerable mistrust, but thanks to his naturalness and dedication, he has earned the trust of his patients. He's also convinced that during childbirth, the only thing that matters is the empathy of those around you.

BOY MIDWIFER –

Empathy has no gender and Richard Federle is proof of this. An obstetrician by profession, at just 25 years old he has already delivered more than 100 babiesA challenging choice that he decided to undertake in his last year of high school, when Riccardo he understood that he wanted to take care of the health of others and to achieve this he decided to dedicate himself to the naturalness of pregnancy and childbirth. Today, he is the only man among the 20 midwives employed at the Peschiera del Garda hospital, and one of the very few in all of Italy. When he talks about himself, he doesn't hide the initial feeling of confusion and distrust when he introduces himself to his parents, feelings that, however, disappear within a few hours thanks to his great professionalism. Abilities that were given to him many satisfactions like when a patient asks him to follow her until the end, even though he has already finished his shift.

DELIVERING CHILDREN –

Riccardo's was a true vocation which recalls the historical role that themidwife She always played in communities, where she was seen as a point of reference as "guardian" of new births. The obstetrician Federle, despite the profession becoming increasingly open to men, he is aware that he is still an exceptionA difficulty that she has accepted and lives with naturally. So, in addition to working in the hospital, she works in family counseling centers, holds pediatric first aid courses and sex education in schools. In this way perfects his professionalism and exercises his empathic abilityIn this sense, the volunteer work he does in the parish of his hometown in the Vicenza hills, Sarcedo, is of great help to him.

FIGHTING PREJUDICES –

When he chose this career, the first obstacle he had to overcome was the embarrassment of his parents, his father a designer and his mother a seamstress, who preferred him to be a nurse. After some initial skepticism, however, they managed to understand Riccardo's reasons. and today they say they are very proud of his career. Also because thinking that midwifery is only a woman's job is now anachronistic: is there anyone who is surprised by the fact that their gynecologist is a man? "Traditionally – explained Riccardo in a recent interview – it has always been thought that midwifery should be a woman, but Fortunately, evolution has led us to understand that empathy has no gender, in this profession as in others.".
