The test to understand when it's time to change your pillow

Just press firmly in the center of the pillow, and find out if...

pillows
Pillows don't last forever. And periodically, depending on the material, the pillowcases, and how we've stored them, they need to be replaced.
The signs that indicate the right time are these:
  • It has lost shape or support: if the pillow becomes squashed or does not return to its original shape.
  • It is lumpy or irregular: the padding has shifted and no longer supports the head and neck well.
  • You wake up in pain: Neck, shoulder or headache discomfort may indicate poor support.
  • Most common allergies: mites and dust accumulate over time and can worsen respiratory symptoms.
  • Persistent odor: even after washing, if it smells bad it is better to replace it.

Then there are 2 alternative tests that can tell you if it's really time to buy a new pillow.

Test 1

  • Press hard the fist in the center of the pillow
  • If the material does not return to its original shape, but remains "sunken", or takes a long time to reopen, it means that the fibres are now exhausted, and the pillow needs to be replaced.

Test 2

  • Remove the pillowcase
  • If you notice yellowish halos, it means that there are colonies of mites and organic residues
  • Again, it's time to buy a new pillow.
