RECYCLED PAPER NOTEBOOKS

There is Vucciria, the most important historical market of Palermo which, after sunset, turns into a point of reference for young people, Ballarò, a real explosion of colors, smells and joy and The boss, the market of fish par excellence where it is also possible to discover different varieties of bread and very fragrant spices,. Magical places where time seems to have stood still and is ideal for a true immersion in the history and most ancient traditions of the Palermo people. And it is precisely from these picturesque markets and from the need and desire to make this beating heart of Sicily which begins the story of Precarious Editions, a design and graphics project that recovers, in an original way, the artisan tradition and local stories and transforms them into notebooks, original and anti-waste.

PRECARIOUS EDITIONS

It all started in a rainy winter of 2013 when Carmela Dacchille, a young architect, who was later joined by Julia Basile, art director and expert in interior design, styling and planning, has decided to recover the food packaging paper used by sellers of different markets and transform them into notebooks, envelopes and writing paper: a way to talk about historic markets, precarious and constantly changing cultural and commercial realities and, at the same time, fight waste, That of wrapping paper which is often thrown away because it is old or damaged or simply because it has already been used.

A humble, waste material with original graphics and high tactile and sound quality, not to be wasted. Leafing through the pages of the notebooks, it becomes possible to relive memories and emotions tied to the markets from which the paper comes. One of the first creations, all in limited edition, was the Canet de Reves, the dream notebook, made almost entirely with paper from the “carnezzerie”, the Palermo butcher shops.

There is Ciccia Pillicca, a small notebook kept in the envelope where it was sold sugar loose, decorated with a curious colored paper lollipop and Simienza, notebooks made with the paper used by the seed grower to make the "cuoppi", paper cones in which toasted seeds, dried fruit and legumes are sold.
