Among the many loans advertised by banks, which are often inconvenient and risk wasting time and money, there are some interesting exceptions. These certainly include the "Per Merito" loan, offered by some banks (primarily Intesa Sanpaolo and BNL) to provide comprehensive financing to deserving students throughout their university career.
The loan, provided in collaboration with universities, has these fundamental characteristics:
- It is aimed at university or post-graduate students
- It does not require guarantees (no family guarantor or income ceiling)
- It is based on the fact that the student is up to date with studies
- It covers expenses such as:
- tuition fees
- room and board
- books and materials
The maximum amount available for this loan is €50, but this can increase to €70-€80 for specific university programs. Disbursement occurs gradually over the years, subject to certain basic conditions:
- must follow the study plan regularly
- keep the academic progress required by the institution (CFU/exams/years)
- the check takes place periodically during the disbursement of the tranches
In practice: if the student accumulates serious delays, payments may be suspended.
And now we come to the refund mechanism, which is also very convenient.
The student must begin repaying the loan no earlier than two years after graduation. At that point, they can pay the loan in installments over a total period of up to thirty years. The interest rate is fixed and is agreed upon with the bank when the loan is disbursed.
