Why Chinese toys are very dangerous

In 86 percent of cases, they fail to ensure the safety of children. And the risks range from suffocation to burns.

TOY RECYCLING 1
I toys manufactured in China and widely sold in Italy have two huge problems, one more serious than the other: they almost never comply with what is written on the label and in the vast majority of cases pose serious safety risks to children.
So, when you buy a Chinese toy, you are not only wasting your money, but you are also endangering the safety of those who will then use it.
A timely and rigorous confirmation of what until now was only a concern, came from a 2025 research by Toy Industries of Europe (TIE), the association representing toy manufacturers in Europe, where regulatory standards are also very high.
According to the results of the study, 96 percent of Chinese toys sold in Europe, including Italy, do not comply with the labels that guarantee the quality of the materials used.
But there is a second, even more serious and worrying, fact identified by TIE: 86 percent of Chinese toys pose serious risks to children's health and safety.
And what are these risks?
  • Suffocation: toys with small or detachable parts that could be swallowed by children.
  • Toxicity: toys made from materials containing hazardous chemicals such as lead, phthalates, or formaldehyde.
  • Physical injuries: toys with sharp edges, dangerous corners, or fragile components that can break easily and cause cuts or injuries.
  • Electrical or fire risk: Electronic toys with defects in electrical components that could cause short circuits, electric shocks or fires.

Yet defending oneself from what TIE has denounced is easy: just avoid purchasing toys of Chinese origin, and be extremely careful. to recognize fake toys and dangerous.
