Each of us has an item of clothing that we are particularly attached to and that is very difficult to part with even when it becomes old and worn out. This is why Paola PellinoEvery time she's given a garment to repair and give new life to, she asks what it means to that person, how they acquired it, and how long ago. This is because each piece has its own story, filled with memories and emotions, moments of joy or sadness that have marked its journey. With care and attention, Paola mends them, or, starting with pieces worn by time, creates small new capsule collections, and she also teaches the craftsman how to do it.
Known on the web and social media as “The Wardrobe”, Paola Pellino, from Turin and daughter of art (her mother was a seamstress), takes care of the garments through the visible mending (visible mending), also with a view to combating the waste of disposable items, typical of the fast fashion fashion.
Passionate about fashion since childhood, Paola Pellino has studied and traveled around the world to catch the latest trends. Now, she transforms seemingly flaws into unique and exclusive details to wear with pride.
In Paris, in 2017, she met Tom van Deijnen, aka Tom of Holland, the master of visible mending, that would shape her future. So, after working for years as a buyer for a major Turin concept store, she decided to launch her own personal project, inventing a profession. A few months later, "La guardarobiera" (The Wardrobe) was born.
Il mending Visible mending is a purely artisanal technique based on one premise: don't throw away anything in your closet, even when an item needs mending. And in this case, it must be done visibly, explicitly, so that the garment transforms and becomes something different. Mending in this way is creative, not just a repair. So much so that different colors are even used to highlight it.. Paola presents herself to her potential clients as “a creative mender” and offers her repairs to private individuals and companies, but also in-person and online courses to learn the technique of visible mending, which helps us not to waste anything from our wardrobes.
