Packtin: Circular flour production from agricultural waste

The Emilia-based startup, controlled by four partners all under 40, recovers food waste, which instead of becoming garbage is transformed into new products.

Five kilos of food waste, once recovered to avoid waste and potential environmental damage, are transformed into excellent circular flours and baked goods. Packtin, a startup born in the classrooms of the University of Biotechnology of Modena and Reggio Emilia, is a model of The circular economy In the heart of Italy, where innovation brings together agriculture, the environment, and recycling. The company not only produces from food waste, but also has a portfolio of 8 patents filed (always concerning recycling and reuse activities) and offers 30 companies in the area a consultancy service for theupcycled, which concerns both the possibility of producing with circular economy models and recycling innovations on the packaging which is usually made with very expensive and polluting materials.

Packtin's partners, All under 40, there are four of them: Andrea Quartieri (the company's COO), Riccardo De Leo (president), Andrea Bedogni (Marketing Manager), and Francesco Bigi (Quality Manager). Andrea Bedogni has a very unique background: he graduated, also in Emilia-Romagna, with a degree in Legal Sciences, and while still in his thirties, he embarked on this adventure inspired by a genuine mission of sustainability. .

Thus in a region like Emilia-Romagna, where every year 360 thousand tons of agri-food by-products are counted, Andrea Bedogni and his partners have found the key to developing a production of flour and baked goods, creating an entire line, the ReFlavour, using the food waste as raw material.
