When we talk about the need to stay well hydrated, as a basic preventative measure to protect our health and avoid wasting it, we shouldn't just be referring to liquids (basically, bottled or tap water), but also, for example, to a series of vegetables and greens that contain it in abundance.

This is the percentage of water contained in some vegetables and greens:

  • Cucumbers, fresh 96,5 percent
  • Radishes, fresh 95,6 percent
  • Lettuce, fresh, cutting 95,6 percent
  • Chicory, cut, cultivated, raw 95 percent
  • Zucchini, between 94 and 95 percent
  • Tomatoes, including canned peeled tomatoes 94.7 percent
  • Fresh yellow pumpkin 94,6 percent
  • Lettuce, fresh 94,6 percent
  • Fresh escarole, 94,5 percent
  • Fresh courgette flowers 94,3 percent
  • Peppers, 92 percent
  • Asparagus, 92 percent
  • Eggplant, 91 percent
  • Carrots, between 88 and 90 percent

The important thing to know is that the more raw and fresh a vegetable is eaten, the greater the amount of water it can retain and provide our bodies. This is why both vegetables and greens are recommended for completing smoothies or natural juices, even when combined with fruit.
