Nutriafrica
Nutriafrica, founded and led by PhD Vincenzo Armini, is an innovative startup based in Portici, in the province of Naples. Its mission is clear and ambitious: to combat malnutrition in Africa by developing sustainable and locally reproducible therapeutic foods. Nutriafrica leverages its founders' experience in volunteer work to create concrete solutions that can be immediately implemented in the field.
Nutriafrica's flagship product is a Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), which requires no prior preparation and can be distributed and used directly in local communities. This food, composed of indigenous ingredients such as soy, sorghum, cane sugar, spirulina powder, and sunflower oil, is designed to treat acute childhood malnutrition, thus reducing the need for hospitalization and easing the burden on healthcare facilities. The technology behind Nutriafrica's RUTF not only ensures high nutritional and safety standards but is also extremely sustainable. The product is resistant to oxidation at high temperatures, allowing for widespread distribution even in the absence of complex infrastructure. Vincenzo Armini and his team's vision is to create a network of local production units that can guarantee a constant and sustainable supply of these therapeutic foods, while promoting the economic empowerment of rural communities.
Nutriafrica doesn't stop at simple food production; it focuses on technology transfer that combines business and social empowerment. The idea is to integrate profit with social responsibility, in a circular economy model that can truly make a difference in the fight against hunger. With a pilot plant already underway at Gulu University in Uganda, Nutriafrica is already seeing the fruits of its labor, demonstrating that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand to create a lasting impact.
