In London there is a block of flats inhabited exclusively by single women.

A group of women, aged 58 to 94, have decided to live together in a community called New Ground

Together, they share the kitchen, the dining room, the garden, but also afternoons spent going to the cinema or reading novels aloud. The community of New Ground, in North London, in the suburb of High Barnet – Chipping Barnet, It is designed and organized as a very special form of cohousing, reserved only for single women over 50 who have decided to live together.

On their website they introduce themselves like this: "We are a group of women over 50 who have created their own community in purpose-built apartments. Instead of living alone, we have friendly and helpful neighbors." New Ground is actually something more than a normal cohousing. Twenty-five apartments are home to women aged 58 to 94, who share first and foremost the choice of this special residence, and then some aspects of daily life. In a common room, they organize weekly dinners, film clubs, and yoga classes, and a mini-apartment is reserved for the women's guests. The homes are simple but well-kept, with a shared garden full of wildflowers, fruit trees, and berries. Everything is personally cared for by the women residents. There's even a carpool service, and the opportunity to shop and cook together. The New Ground experience isn't just a defeat for the solitude, but it is also a way to build community, where human relationships, also due to the spread of technology, are very torn, especially after a certain age.
