Matteo, 18, with Down syndrome: how he found work in a delicatessen

First an internship, then a full-fledged work experience. With excellent results, thanks to teamwork.

down syndrome

La down syndrome It can be faced head-on, and even with surprising results, when someone puts passion, heart and a pinch of courage into it. This is how it went in Matteo Scotto, an 18 year old boy, struck by the down syndrome, fourth-year student at the Giolitti Hotel Management Institute in Mondovì, in the province of Cuneo.

MATTEO SCOTTO

Matteo is a man of great will and an open personality, but he's also fortunate to have, among his teachers, Davide Giordana, a pastry teacher. He's the one who connects the boy's family with the delicatessen Gatrò 18 in Cuneo, owned by Gennaro and Donatella Spadaro. He starts with an internship, like many other hotel school students, but Matteo manages to integrate seamlessly with the restaurant staff and becomes part of the team, discovering his joy—and his talent—for the job.

GASTRO' 18

After the internship, given the results, Matteo continues to go to work at Gatrò 18 on weekendsAnd the happiest of all is Caterina Lanza, Matteo's mother: "A memorable adventure, from every perspective. An experience that should be imitated by other companies: seeing people who believe in our children's potential is the most beautiful thing in life. And it gives us so much strength, which we need."
