MACKEREL MEATBALLS RECIPE

MACKEREL MEATBALLS

Meatballs can be a great way to get kids to eat fish without fussing. You can also experiment with shapes and decorations to further entice them. With this recipe, you can bake them either in the oven, carefully following the cooking times, or fry them, using extra virgin olive oil.

INGREDIENTS (for 4 people)

  • 2 mackerel
  • 1 egg
  • 3 slices of stale bread
  • Vinegar
  • Bread crumbs
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation

  • Clean the mackerel wellCut off the head and tail and remove the innards (you can ask your fishmonger to do this for you). Boil them in salted water for 10 minutes, or steam them. Once they're lukewarm, transfer them to a large bowl and crumble them with a fork.
  • Add the egg, the soaked and squeezed bread and the vinegarSeason with salt and pepper. If necessary, add a little breadcrumbs to make the mixture soft and smooth.
  • Form meatballs Using a spoon and dampened hands, roll them in the breadcrumbs. Drizzle them with a little oil and bake them in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 20 minutes, remembering to turn them halfway through cooking, or fry them in a pan with plenty of hot oil.

An advice

If you like, you can add 3 boiled potatoes, 60 g of fresh ricotta, thyme, and chives for an even softer and more refined result.
