In Modica, a small town of just over 50 thousand inhabitants, in Sicily, the Lions Club Modica, chaired by Giovanni Liberatore, has carried out, in 2025, an extraordinary solidarity initiative, collecting eight hundred used glasses for use by people in need, both in Italy and around the world.
The collection was carried out through a network of parishes, pharmacies, opticians, businesses, and individual families. From Modica, the glasses then went to the Italian Lions Center "Raccolta Occhiali Usati" in Chivasso, in the province of Turin, where they were refurbished and then distributed through volunteer associations that assist the poor in Italy and abroad.
The case of the Modica Lions Club is not an isolated one. For some time now, the "Italian Lions Center for the collection of used glasses", which also has its own Facebook page . She coordinates the various clubs that carry out this activity throughout Italy, a precious testimony to how the fight against waste (unused and completely abandoned glasses) can transform into a valid opportunity to help others, those we often cannot even look in the eye.

As it is told in the Official site Thanks to this initiative, over the years the various Lions Clubs have received over 4 million glasses, and a good 2.4 million have been delivered to people who have been able to see well thanks to the gift of an object they could not afford.
