Books and holidays: a survey reveals the reading tastes of European travellers.

In Italy, people read on paper, on the beach, spending between 10 and 30 euros. The most widely read book in Italy is "La giostra degli scambi" by Andrea Camilleri.

SUMMER BOOKS 2015 –

What and how much do people read? Europeans on vacation? Opodo, online travel agency, has interviewed over 3000 travellers of the Old Continent (Italians, French, Germans and English) to find out what their habits are reading under the umbrella.

ITALIAN READERS ON HOLIDAY –

According to the survey Opodo is the favourite reading for Italians on holiday "The trade carousel"of Andrea Camilleri (28%), in second position we find “La Piuma"of Giorgio Faletti (17%), while further back "Where did Audrey go??" Of Sophie Kinsella (10%), “Tell me you believe in destiny"of Luca Bianchini (6%) and “The Secret of the Angels"of Camilla Lackberg (1%).

SUMMER 2015 HOLIDAYS –

As for the reading habits of Europeans, 43% of travellers read for to relax and unplug, 35% for distracted ed escape from reality, while 12% for inquire about on a destinationEuropeans prefer to read in beach (46%) or in hotel (30%), while 16% prefer to spend their travel time in train or plane reading.

Tedeschi e English are the populations that read the most on holiday (96%), while the Italians are the ones who read the least (87%). The European average, however, stands at 1-2 books read on vacation for all populations.

PAPER OR DIGITAL? –

In contrast to the choices of Italians, Europeans prefer to buy books directly online (28%), or alternatively, in small local bookstores (27%). Only 16% rely on large chains of distribution. As many as 75% of European travellers involved continue to prefer the paper book, while on tablets and other technological devices people mainly read newspapers (17%) and blogs (13%).

HOW MUCH DOES IT SPEND? –

53% of Europeans spend between 10 and 30 euros on holiday books. Only Germans and Italians have a higher budget, between 30 and 50 euros, while one in three Britons spends less than 10 euros on books.
