BOOKS BY THE METER –
828 Broadway, Manhattan. A reader's paradise: this is where the Strand Library, a three-and-a-half-story shop known as the kingdom of used books. Founded in 1927 by Benjamin Bass (then 25 years old) on Fourth Avenue, in “Book Row”, where by 1890 there were 48 bookstores, was moved by his son Fred to its current location at the corner of East 12th Street and Broadway, in 1956.
