ECO-FRIENDLY JEANS
Reversing a trend may seem like an impossible mission. Yet, there's a startup that wanted to set an example for the big fashion companies. This is the case of Pagurojeans, which promotes a sustainable model for the production of jeans, challenging the most famous brands.
The fashion industry is the world's second largest producer of emissions. Furthermore, it requires a huge amount of water because produce a pair of jeans they are necessary from 7000 to 15000 liters of waterFrom the acquisition of raw materials to the creation of fabrics and, finally, the disposal of used products.
All manufacturing stages require large quantities of water, electricity, and chemicals. Consequently, the environmental and social impact are extremely high. To combat waste in the fashion industry, two physicists (Andrea Maria Scaparro e Guillermo Hernandez Muñoz) decided to found a brand, Pagurojeans, which is inspired by the “3Rs” principle of the circular economy.

Why doesn't Pagurojeans waste resources? The main reason lies in the decision to reduce, as much as possible, the impact on the planetTo date, Pagurojeans has created some of the most eco-friendly jeans on the market. How? From raw materials to finished products. Out-of-fashion jeans are recycled, rather than destroyed, as are waste materials. The recycled materials are then used to produce eco-friendly jeans. The two young founders were inspired by the hermit crab and its behavior, reinventing the way jeans are produced.
Andrea Maria Scaparro and Guillermo Hernandez Munoz want to transform the world's best-selling garment into a sustainable one. socially ed ecologicallyAccording to their business plan, this should happen thanks to an algorithm that reproduces the fit of your favorite jeans. In this way, it would be possible to reduce waste and completely avoid any type of exploitation of labor. The algorithm was created and tested by the two physicists. It allows jeans to be made in a tailoring laboratory using the denim 40% recycled and a short production chain. A manufacturing process that would allow a 60% water savings compared to that of the normal garment factories and a reduction of energy expenditure up to 40%.

This is the challenge of the two entrepreneurs. Making an eco-friendly product accessible to the general public is no easy feat. For this reason, the two entrepreneurs launched their idea on a crowdfunding platform, which allowed him to publicize the project and obtain the necessary funding.
Thanks to the composition created by the two physicists, the jeans can withstand any type of stress. Furthermore, the reduced presence of synthetic fibers allows them to be complete reuse at the end of the garment's life cycle. This feature addresses one of the objectives of the circular economy: designing products that are easily reusable.
Many young people could soon be wearing eco-friendly jeans, helping the environment without sacrificing fashion. The Pagurojeans project promotes informed purchasing by actively involving consumers through the old jeans collection, to recycle raw materials. This will allow us to gradually reach our final goal: a 100% recycled jean.
