Types of food poisoning
- Food poisoning due to plant and animal toxinsA paradigmatic case is that of the poisonous mushrooms or even botulism that forms in preserves.
- Chemical poisoningIt can occur as a result of taking certain medications, due to pesticides, but also due to metals and additives.
- Intoxication by microorganisms: bacteria, molds, parasites and viruses. Or even from the biodecomposition of foods, as in the case of some types of fish which have accumulated a toxin due to poor storage.
- Poisoning from contaminated foodIn this case, the cause is poor food preservation, or the poor hygienic conditions in which it was stored.
How long does it last
Cause
It can happen: you ate something contaminated with bacteria and you got afood poisoningDon't be afraid and take the right countermeasures, starting with a series of natural remedies that we are going to suggest, and you will see that in a short time all the ailments will disappear. Poisoning is particularly severe when you eat raw foods, or in the case of a lunch in a restaurant where the quality of the dishes was not correct, but also at home, due to an error in the preparation of what you ate or due to a baking insufficient. Keep in mind that intoxication, precisely because of its mild characteristics, is considered by doctors to be a sort of “food flu”. Nothing more. And that's very different from poisoning. (think mushrooms, shellfish, or spoiled canned food) that strikes in a severe form, with the symptoms we'll see, especially in the very young, the elderly, or those suffering from a chronic illness. In all these cases, you should call your doctor immediately, without waiting for the results of natural remedies, which may not work.
Symptoms
The first symptoms of food poisoning are the clearest, and leave no doubt: nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Add to this a feeling of weakness and some stomach cramps. These are among the symptoms that gradually worsen during the initial phase of intoxication, when you should take action with our advice.
Fill up on fluids. Start with plain water, sipped slowly and slowly to avoid making you feel more like vomiting, or an ice cube, sucked like a candy. Bacteria irritate the intestinal tract and stimulate the loss of a lot of fluids, probably from both sides. Drink plenty of fluids or you'll become dehydrated. Water is the best replacement fluid, followed by other clear fluids like Apple juice, beef broth or vegetable broth. Carbonated drinks are also fine, as long as you drink them without bubbles. Bubbles would further irritate the stomach. And the Flat Coca-Cola, for reasons that are still unclear, has an additional advantage, it lets you pass the nauseaTo quickly deflate a fizzy drink, simply pour it back and forth between two glasses.
Try an anti-venom cocktail. Vomiting and diarrhea can cause you to lose important electrolytes such as potassium, sodium and glucose. You can replace them by drinking readily available ready-made rehydration saline solutions (like Gatorade). Or try this rehydration recipe: mix fruit juice (for potassium) with half a teaspoon of sugar or honey (for glucose) and a pinch of cooking salt (sodium chloride).
Don't waste time and money on antacids. Antacids reduce stomach acidity and weaken your antibacterial defenses. Bacteria are likely to multiply more efficiently and more quickly if you take an antacid, unless prescribed by your doctor.

Remedies
No medicines and restYou need rest. Your body is trying to get rid of toxic germs. In some cases, take antidiarrheal drugs It can interfere with the body's resources to fight the infection. So stay away from medications and let nature take its course. If you feel you need to take something, consult your doctor first..
Don't force yourself to vomit. Don't let the word "intoxication" scare you into sticking your fingers down your throat. There's no need.
Eat light foods at first. Typically, a few hours after vomiting and diarrhea have subsided, you're ready for some "good" food. But go slowly. Your stomach has been attacked, and it's weak and irritated. Start with: easy-to-digest foods. Try with rusks, broth, cracker, boiled rice or semolina. Avoid foods rich in fiber, very spicy foods, acidic, very fatty, or overly sweet foods, and dairy products, which can further irritate the stomach. Do this for a day or two; then your stomach will be ready to return to normal.
When to go to the doctor immediately. Severe intoxication, which leads to actual poisoning, is recognized first by several indicators: difficulty swallowing, speaking, and even breathing. Changes in vision. fever above 38 degreesSevere vomiting, meaning you can't keep any liquids down, diarrhea lasting more than a day or two, even bloody diarrhea. In these conditions, your food poisoning, which usually resolves within a day or two with the remedies we've listed, requires immediate and urgent medical attention.
Plants against food poisoning
- ZENZERO. It has a natural anti-nausea and anti-inflammatory effect on the digestive tract. It quickly promotes the rebalancing of intestinal bacterial flora, thus eliminating nausea and inhibiting the growth of numerous pathogenic microbes. It relieves dyspepsia and flatulence.
- Melissa. It offers reliable relief from cramps and colic. It is diuretic, detoxifying, and helps eliminate toxins thanks to its purifying action.
- Charcoal. A very fine, porous powder obtained, after careful processing, from the wood of the white birch. It is composed of tiny particles capable of trapping toxins in our bodies. Activated charcoal is effective for heartburn, diarrhea, and indigestion.
- milk thistle. It has a specific detoxifying effect, and thanks to its active ingredient, silymarin, this plant is capable of rapidly regenerating liver cells, aiding its purification.
Dangerous foods
- SalmonellaThey hatch in fruit and vegetables contaminated by sewage or poorly washed. They also breed in eggs and poultry. The incubation period is very short: from 12 to 72 hours.
- Escherichia coliIt has an incubation period of one to eight days, due to the poor cooking of food (especially meat) or from vegetables watered with sewage.
- Listeria monocytogenesIt is found in unpasteurized cheeses, raw vegetables, and refrigerated foods that require no cooking, such as prepackaged sandwiches. Incubation varies greatly: from a few days to several weeks.
- Hepatitis A VirusIts incubation period lasts from two to seven weeks, and it involves contaminated or undercooked water, vegetables, and shellfish.
- Clostridium botulinumIt's a deadly bacterium that can even cause death and has a very fast incubation period, 24 to 36 hours. It's found in canned foods that haven't been packaged according to the proper regulations that apply to these products.
Dangers
- Hemolytic uremic syndrome. In this case, there is a risk of kidney failure and even damage to the nervous system.
- Neurological problems, to the brain and nervous system. This is the case of botulinum poisoning, one of the worst.
- Dehydration. Accompanied by nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
- Constant fever above 38 degrees, with blood in the stool.
- Abdominal pain and cramps very strong.
- Listeriosis. Very dangerous for a pregnant woman's unborn child: it can lead to miscarriage.
